Palo Duro Canyon State Park Details

As part of the Caprock Escarpment, this park is home to the second-largest canyon in America. Marked by multi-colored cliffs, eroded cave systems, and towering sandstone hoodoos, the spectacular landscape encompasses over 270 acres of the Texas Panhandle. Throughout history, the canyon was home to both native American tribes and European settlers. It was then purchased for private use in 1876 before being handed over to the state in 1934. The park became so popular for visits and tourists that it was declared a National Natural Landmark by the National Park Service in 1976. There are 16 different trails that lead through the park, all of which can be used for hiking, cycling, or horseback riding. Overnight guests can also spend the night at one of the campsites or rent a rim-side cabin with jaw-dropping views into the canyon.
