Originally purchased as a water source by the USDA, Buffalo Lake National Wildlife Refuge in Texas is now home to countless plants and animals that make up the natural habitat of the area. Unfortunately, the lake has since dried up. The 7,664 acres of land still cultivates quite a bit of plant life and animal life even without the lake. The Black-tailed Prairie Dog is a playful resident at the refuge and plays a key role in the ecosystem.
