A mixed terrain hike full of sharp inclines and steep declines, this trail is of the most scenic routes in the Caprock Canyons State Park and Trailway. Together with the Lower Canyon Loop, this trail clocks in just above 12 miles. You will make your start at the Wild Horse Camping Area before passing Fern Cave. From there, you will trek up the rugged landscape towards the upper canyon. Along the way, keep your eyes peel for herds of bison that wander through the dry creek beds during the day. Once you reach the top of the canyon ridge, you will be treated to a 360-degree view of the crimson-colored rocks.
