Texas Forest Trail Details
Covering over 835 miles of eastern Texas is this historic trail. Considered the “Gateway to Texas” for many European explorers, native American tribes, and even enslaved and freed African Americans, this trail takes you through 20 of the most historic towns and cities in the state. Although it would take several days to navigate the entire trail, it’s worth stopping off at a few big-name attractions, including the Starr Family Home and State Historic site in Marshall, the Mission San Francisco de los Tejas in San Antonio, and the logging town of Aldridge Sawmill. The trail also crosses four national parks and five state forests, including Davy Crockett National Forest and John Henry Kirby State Forest.
