The Appleton Preserve is one of many areas under the watchful conservation efforts of the Land for Maine's Future Program. With the intent of preserving natural environments for both the wildlife and public, the Appleton is managed with nature in mind and offers 1.2 miles of pathways running through 124 acres of flooded and upland conifer forests, open fields, and river land sections. This particular division of land has seen years of use. From tree clearings for agriculture to past use as a portion of the old St. Georges River Canal, the now forested acreage is returning to natural growth.
