Boreal Forest Trail Details
If you don't have time for a longer hike, at least get out for a quick walk on the Boreal Forest Trail, a short loop walk near the Park Headquarters Visitor Center. The first part of the loop is paved but the second half is not. The unpaved portion follows the old Valdez Trail, a historic alternative route to the Chilkoot Pass for gold prospectors to travel between Fairbanks and the coast. Although it's short, this trail offers views of the Wrangell Mountains and the Copper River. It will give you a brief glimpse at the vast wilderness, the rugged mountains, and the expansive boreal forest. And perhaps event tempt you to venture further into the park!
