As another nicely repurposed railroad track, the St. John Valley Heritage Trail is a popular 16.5 mile path from St. John to St. Francis. The gently rolling trail does not run through wilderness, but instead takes adventurers away from the hustle and bustle by following the bank of the St. John River. Fields and farmlands are the main scenery, as are the remnants of old wars, such as the blockhouse at Fort Kent State Historic Site.
