Fort Kent State Historic Site Details

Left behind after the Aroostook War, the Fort Kent State Historic Site is another reminder of the struggles faced by early settlers to the region. Though a fort ended up not being necessary, the blockhouse here was still used to house troops to secure the national and state border. Now turned into a museum, the two-story structure is open to visitors to learn of the historical times and to admire a prime example of the military architecture of the period. It is also one of Maine's few National Historic Landmarks.
