Tahoma Glacier Details

The Tahoma Glacier lies on the western side of Mount Rainier and covers 1.2 square miles. It flows from southwest from an area near the summit and cascades as an icefall from 13,200 feet to 11,000 feet. The glacier broadens as it drops below 9,000 feet and then narrows as it approaches rocky Glacier Island, a sub-peak of Rainier. Then it splits into two and the longer northern arm continues flowing southwest, terminating around 5,500 feet, while the southern arm flows south, terminating at 5,700 feet. Meltwater from the glacier feeds into the Tahoma Creek and South Puyallup River.
