Puyallup Glacier Details
The Puyallup Glacier lies on Mount Rainier's western side and covers two square miles. It shares the same source as the South Mowich Glacier, beginning at the Sunset Amphitheater, and then splits with the South Mowich around 8,500 feet. Here, the Puyallup spreads into a large ice sheet that stretches from 8,400 feet to 7,400 feet, before it flows down a small hanging valley and eventually heads northwest. The glacier's terminus lies around 6,000 feet, in a pile of dirty, rocky rubble. The glacier feeds the Puyallup River. One of the top places to view the glacier is from Klapatche Park.
