Tropic Trail Details
Most people drive into Bryce Canyon National Park, naturally, but the park also has an interesting "back door" to the park: you can walk in from the nearby town of Tropic, Utah. The two-mile Tropic Trail begins, appropriately enough, at the end of Bryce Way, which is off of UT-12 in the town of Tropic, just to the east of the park. The trail slowly gains elevation and, while not especially interesting at first, begins to reveal the beauty of Bryce Canyon after about a mile or so, when the park's famous hoodoos, arches, monuments, and other features come into view. Once in the park, the Tropic Trail connects to the Navajo Loop Trail, giving you access to Bryce's entire under-the-rim trail network. Best of all, you don't have to climb back up the rim once you finish your day's hike -- in fact, you'll have a downhill walk all the way back to Tropic.
