Pedernales Falls State Park Details
Located just a short drive from Austin, this park is nestled on the banks of the Pedernales River. For this reason, most visitors come to participate in a variety of water activities, like fishing, swimming, tubing, and kayaking. Before it became a state park, the land was used as a cattle ranch. The state purchased the land from a private owner in 1970 and opened up the state park in its place just one year later. Beginner and experienced hikers alike will also find something fun to explore inside the park. Whether your trekking to the scenic overlook over Twin Falls or embarking on the 10-mile journey up Juniper Ridge Trail, there's a hike for every type of skill level. While the flowing Pedernales is at the heart of the action, guests should be cautious of flash flooding and rising water levels. It's not uncommon for the river to become rapid-like and dangerous during certain months of the year.
