McKinney Falls State Park Details
This park is just 15-minutes south of Austin, although it feels like an entirely different world compared to the bustle of city life. Here, you'll find cascading waterfalls and winding creeks, along with a plethora of hiking trails, historical sites, and native wildlife. The park is named after Thomas McKinney, who lived on the property in the mid-1800s. He was one of Austin's first residents who quickly became a popular senator for the city. The land was donated by his family to the state in the 1970s. You'll still be able to see remnants of his home during your visit to the park. Other outdoor activities include hiking (there are over 9 miles of trails) and fishing (the two creeks are teeming with marine life). Camping is also possible at one of the rural campsites or modern cabins. The 45-minute trek to McKinney Falls is also a must-do if you're looking for picturesque views of the waterfalls themselves.
