Lake Somerville State Park & Trailway Details
Centrally located between Austin and Houston, this spacious 5,520-acre park has plenty to offer in terms of outdoor adventure. From glistening lakes and babbling creeks to grassy fields and winding trails, there's something here for every type of visitor. The artificial lake was constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineering in 1962 and is still owned by them to this day (although the Texas Parks and Wildlife Departments leases the park in cooperation with them). You can reach the lake by boat through either Birch Creek or Nails Creek. It's also possible to rent canoes and kayaks. Popular land activities include hiking, cycling, horseback riding, and camping.
