Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge Details
Covering over 98,000-acres of the Rio Grande Valley is the largest protected wildlife refuge in the area. Its goal is to provide a control wetland ecosystem to support migratory birds, including the mottled duck, Rio Grande lesser siren, and reddish egrets. Since 95% of the natural land in South Texas has been cleared, it's crucial that these protected parks exist. Without them, it will become gradually more difficult for animals and birds to find food, shelter, and places to breed. Wild birdwatching is a popular activity, hiking, cycling, and fishing are a few other things you can participate in during your visit. You can also take a wildlife tour of the Laguna Madre to see what wild creatures (like bobcats, antelopes, rattlesnakes, and alligators) live on the property.
