Gordonia-Alatamaha State Park Details
Gordonia-Alatamaha State Park contains an ecosystem that is unique to Georgia. Until approximately a million years ago the park would have looked like a tropical rainforest, and before that, the area was covered in ocean. Nowadays the park is in the coastal plain region and has a 12-acre pond and is located next to the Alatamaha River. The name comes from that and the rare Gordonia tree that can be found on the grounds. As part of the Camilia family, this species is typically found in Asia but has also been discovered in a couple of other random areas around the world, one of these being the Gordonia-Alatamaha State Park.
