Historic Effingham-Ebenezer Scenic Byway Details
Retrace the steps of some of the first Georgian residents when you drive across this historic and scenic byway. This 60-mile drive connects the towns of Rincon, Springfield, and Guyton while also winding through one of Georgias oldest settlements Ebenezer. This town was originally founded by German Lutherans who fled Austria in the early 1730s in search of religious freedom. They built the Ebenezer Townsite and Jerusalem Lutheran Church, which is now the 4th-oldest building in the state. However, Ebenezer is not the only historic stop along the byway. You will also get the chance to see the 18th-century settlement of Bethany, the Effingham County Historic Society and Effingham Museum, and the trail where General Sherman led the March to the Sea during the Civil War.
