Between the dense forest and breathtaking summit views, it is easy to see why this 11.2-mile trail is one of the most popular routes in the Appalachians. You will first start the hike from Wood Gap, a picturesque mountain ridge that sits 3,160-feet above sea level. The views only get better as you navigate the switchbacks for the next few miles up to Preachers Rock. This is the highest point of the hike, so enjoy the sweeping scenery and make your descent back down into the forest. You will pass campsites and creeks until you reach Jarrard Gap. If you would like to make a little detour, you can hike 1.15-miles to Lake Windfield Scott for fishing, boating, or swimming.
