Blood Mountain Loop Details
Do not let its threatening name fool you this mountain has some of the most stunning views along the Appalachian Trail. That is because this peak is the highest mountain in range (and the 6th-highest in the state) which means you will be rewarded with beautiful views over the rocky ridge skyline. However, the 6-mile hike to the summit can be tricky. The steep elevation gain and sharp switchbacks are best reserved for more experienced hikers. Some parts of the trail also have exposed roots, which can make this a challenging trek in the summer and winter. There is also a shorter 2-mile hike to the summit from the Walasi-Yi Center, although this section is equally as steep and difficult.
