The U.S. National Park Service protects Ancestral Puebloan (Anasazi) ruins all over the Southwest; Yucca House National Monument is unusual in that it has never been excavated, so it remains essentially untouched since it was abandoned eight centuries ago. Located in southwestern Colorado, Yucca House is an important archaeological site: it is comprised of several mounds where Anasazi communities once stood in the shadow of Sleeping Ute Mountain. This remote park has no services and can only be accessed via dirt roads traveling over private property; contact the offices of Mesa Verde National Park for information on visiting Yucca House.
