Grand Mesa National Forest Details

Situated to the west of both the White River and the Gunnison National Forests, the Grand Mesa National Forest of Colorado has excellent camping facilities and opportunities for viewing wildlife. Some of the animals that call this forest home are golden and bald eagles, cougars, black bears, elk, and peregrine falcons. Grand Mesa is the largest flat-topped mountain in the world and has an elevation of over 11,000 feet above sea level. The Grand Mesa forest is home to the Crag Crest trail, which traverses along the thin spines of already narrow ridges, and is not for hikers that are afraid of heights.
