McGurk Meadow Details
Named after the small pioneering cabin John McGurk built in the 1890s while he was grazing sheep, McGurk Meadow is a sunny, expansive stretch of waving grasses, lupine, cow parsnip, monkshood, and lilies. The smooth, flat trail that runs through here is great for strolling. It leaves the coniferous forest for the meadow, where it passes the McGurk cabin site and crosses a small brook. The McGurk Meadow Trail ends at Dewey Point (7.5 miles round trip) where it joins the Pohono Trail. Dewey Point affords one of the best, yet more remote, views of Yosemite Valley. Despite its beauty and proximity to Bridalveil Fall, McGurk Meadow remains relatively unknown, and offers a relaxing respite in Yosemite's beautiful wilderness. McGurk Meadow is also the summer home of the very rare Yosemite Great Gray Owl and is one of the best places in the Park to find late summer wildflowers.
