Straight ahead of this viewpoint is Merced Peak. With an elevation of 11,726 feet, it is the highest point in the Clark Range, just surpassing three other peaks; Red Peak (11,699 feet), Gray Peak (11,573 feet), and Mount Clark (11,522 feet). Merced Peak is located close to the southern border of Yosemite National Park, near the Ottoway Lakes and at the headwaters of the Merced River. The summit can be approached from the Quartz Mountain Trailhead over Chiquito Pass or from the Mono Meadows Trailhead or Glacier Point Trailhead, both located on Glacier Point Road. **Roadside marker: G3**
