Furnace Creek Visitor Center & Museum Details

The main visitor center for Death Valley National Park, the Furnace Creek Visitor Center is located at the Furnace Creek resort area off California Highway 190, roughly halfway between Death Valley Junction and Stovepipe Wells Village. The visitor center is located at 190 feet below sea level, and a prominent display outside shows the (often staggeringly hot) air temperature. The visitor center is staffed by park rangers who can provide a wealth of information about what to see and do in Death Valley. Ranger-led programs include walks, talks, and other presentations. A 20-minute film is shown in the visitor center as well, and the Death Valley Natural History Association maintains a bookstore focused on the park's natural and cultural history -- also a focal point of the Death Valley Museum. Most facilities at the visitor center are handicapped accessible, including restrooms, and there are designed parking spaces and curb cuts as well. The visitor center is open daily, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the winter and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the summer. Phone (760) 786-3200.
