Weaverville Joss House State Historic Park Details

Home to the oldest continuously used Chinese temple in California, this historic park is a landmark within the Taoist community. The original temple was built during the Gold Rush in 1849, although it was destroyed by a fire and later rebuilt in 1874. The interior and exterior of the building are equally as stunning, with colorful art objects, pictures, iron weapons, and even historic tools from the Gold Rush. This is a working temple, so all guests should be respectful and appropriately dressed when visiting.
