The 6,939-acre Pixley National Wildlife Refuge is the habitat of the endangered San Joaquin kit fox, blunt-nosed leopard lizard, and Tipton kangaroo rat. 300 of the acres provide a home for migratory waterfowl and shorebirds, and this area is the best place in the Southern San Joaquin Valley to view sandhill cranes. The refuge is perfect for a nature stroll through the educational 1.5 mile walking trail that includes an observation deck at the end.
