Phantom Ranch Details

The rustic Phantom Ranch lodge building and cabins were built in 1922 following the design of park architect Mary Colter. If you want to sleep anywhere other than a tent inside the Grand Canyon, this is your only option. Located beside Bright Angel Creek, Phantom Ranch offers private cabins and dormitory beds to hikers, river rafters, and people taking mule trips below the rim of the canyon. There are 11 cabins with bunk beds, and the male and female dorms each contain 10 bunk beds with showers and rest rooms. The four stone cabins you see are originals from 1922; the rest were added over the next decade. Overnight mule trips include a cabin stay and steak dinner at Phantom Ranch. Food, drinks and sundries are sold at the Phantom Ranch Canteen. You can even purchase and send a t-shirt that will be 'mailed by Grand Canyon Mule'. Meals are also served at the canteen but, as with lodging at Phantom Ranch, must be reserved well in advance. Available meals include breakfast, a sack lunch, steak or vegetarian dinner, or hiker's stew dinner. The Bright Angel Campground is also located at Phantom Ranch; you'll need a reservation to stay there, too.
