Gila-Pinal Scenic Road Details
A wonderful introduction to the diverse landscapes of Arizona can be seen on this leisurely 26-mile journey with zig-zagging switchbacks. It encompasses four different biotic zones, including deserts, pine forests, mountains, and riparian woodlands, as well as through the towns of Miami and Globe. As you drive through the Pinal mountains, you will come across several copper mines, only a handful of which are still in operation. The neighboring small towns, while worn down, are windows back in time to a better era before the copper was mined out. If you are looking to make a pit stop, then spend a few hours at Boyce Thompson Arboretum State Park, the largest botanical garden in the state.
