Hieroglyphic Trail Details
Part nature trail part historical landmark, this area is a must-see for those visiting the Superstition Mountains. This track is a gentle 3-mile out-and-back hike through the Sonoran Desert landscape of cacti and wildflowers. You will feel as if you found your own slice of paradise, with nothing but wilderness surrounding you as you make your way to the petroglyphs. Many of these paintings were left by Hohokam Indians over 1,500 years ago. You will see their marks left on the caves and rocks, although some of them have eroded and faded over time. Near the petroglyphs are two small pools and a waterfall, where you can rest before heading back to the car.
