Windy Lodge Warden Cabin Details

In the 1950s, a growing trend saw wardens and their families moving into Banff National Park's backcountry so that the wardens could protect and enhance designated wilderness areas for the pleasure and benefit of the Canadian people. The Windy Lodge Warden Cabin is an example of buildings designed as residences for these wardens and their families, and was built in 1950. This warden cabin, found near the confluence of the Panther River and Wigmore Creek at the base of Panther Mountain, also contains a nuclear bomb shelter. It is a familiar site with both park wardens and hikers who pass through the area. The Windy Lodge Warden Cabin is listed on Canada's Historic Places and the Canadian Register, and is a Federal Heritage Building.
