Sandhills Warden Cabin Details

When it was built in 1931, the Sandhills Warden Cabin was intended to house wardens whose job it was to patrol Banff National Park on horseback in the summertime, and on snowshoes or skis in the wintertime. The cabin was just one in a network to minimize travel time between cabins and points within the park. When it was not being used by wardens, the general public was welcome to use the space. The Sandhills Warden Cabin sits on the edge of a mature spruce forest, fronting an open glade and facing the Red Deer River. The cabin serves as an important landmark to hikers, backpackers, skiers and snowshoers who are making their way through the area. The Sandhills Warden Cabin is listed on Canada's Historic Places and the Canadian Register, and is a Federal Heritage Building.
