Dave White Block Details
Sitting proudly on two lots Banff Avenue in downtown Banff is the David White Block, a two-story, red brick building that is one of the oldest, mostly intact, commercial buildings in the town. Built in two sections - south, 1908-09 and north, 1912-13 - the building is a rare example of early commercial life in Banff that illustrates the community's roots as a commercial service center to National Park visitors. Dave White and his family played a prominent role in the early development of the tourism industry in Banff in the early-1900s, and the building is still owned by the family's Whyte Foundation. Today, several prominent businesses and professionals have office space on the second floor of the David White Block, including the Alpine Club of Canada. The David White Block is listed on Canada's Historic Places and the Canadian Register.
