If you are going to hike to Lower Quartz Lake, you should consider making a day of it and do the entire Quartz Lake Loop. While it's only 3.6 miles to Lower Quartz Lake, you can do the entire loop and hit several lakes in 12.8 miles in what is one of only two day-hike loops in the park. The trailhead for Lower Quartz Lake is located at Bowman Lake in the North Fork area of the park. The trail starts by crossing Bowman Creek on the edge of the lake, giving beautiful water views as well as of the distant mountains. Lower Quartz Lake is a clear, peaceful lake surrounded by forest. Remember, Glacier is grizzly country. Carry bear spray, make noise and travel in groups. Trailhead is at the Bowman Lake parking lot.
