Woodland Opera House State Historic Park Details

This historic landmark is one of the four remaining function opera houses in the entire state, earning it the rightful place on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Built-in 1885 by Thomas J. Welsh, this opera house may look like a simple brick building from the outside, but the inside has a horseshoe-like audience and a large orchestra pit typical of playhouses from this era. After an unfortunate lawsuit, the theatre closed in 1913 and remained unused until it was restored and reopened in 1989. It now hosts seasonal theater performances, a youth theater summer camp, and numerous concerts throughout the year.
