Leland Stanford Mansion State Historic Park Details
Situated right in the heart of downtown Sacramento, this state park is home to a historic Victorian mansion built in the mid 1850s. At this time, it was used as the main residence for California Governor Leland Stanford, although it was later used as an orphanage and as the official reception center for foreign visitors to the United States. The mansion underwent a massive $22 million dollar restoration in 1991, and finally opened to the public as a museum and state park in 2005. Guests can now tour the 19,000-square foot building to see the opulence of this mansion first hand.
