Old Sacramento State Historic Park Details
Considered a U.S. National Historic Landmark District, this area of Sacramento includes over 50 historical buildings built during the Gold Rush era. Their unique architecture is heavily influenced by Spanish and Mexican culture, with large arched doorways and iron-wrought balconies. Some of the most notable buildings include the B.F. Hastings Building, which was the first location of the California Supreme Court, and the Big Four House, merchant buildings named after the founders of the First Transcontinental Railroad. Although they have been restored, many buildings, including shops and restaurants, still operated like they did 150 years ago.
