South Llano River State Park Details
Spend a fun-filled day on the river at this beautiful park in Hill County. The spring-fed South Llano River is perfect for families, as it's calm, slow-moving, and perfect for numerous outdoor activities. The land was once owned by Walter White Buck, Jr., a young farmer who raised livestock on his family ranch. In 1977, he donated the entire property to Texas Parks and Wildlife, who, in return, opened up a public state park so that visitors could also enjoy the tranquil setting. In 2011, the park merged with the Walter Buck Wildlife Management Area and remains a popular place for hiking, cycling, and camping. On the river, visitors can spend the day fishing or paddling down the water with a kayak or canoe (the park also offers rentals and shuttle service). It's also recommended to visit during turkey roosting season, which lasts from October until the end of March. Entrance Fees - Adult: $5 Daily - Child 12 Years and Under: Free Reservations are available [online] (https://texasstateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/south-llano-river-state-park/r/facilityDetails.do?contractCode=TX&parkId=1200069&_ga=2.260463752.447085507.1618845916-917412064.1616861417) or by calling (512) 389-8900
