Mustang Island State Park Details
If you're looking for a day of sun, sand, and surf, then look no further than this scenic park. It snakes along the Gulf of Mexico and boasts over 5-miles of sandy, rocky coastline. As its name implies, this barrier island was once home to numerous wild mustangs that roamed the land (although there haven't been any sightings since the 1800s). In addition to the horses, Mustang Island was also home to native Karankawa tribes, as well as Spanish and English settlers. The island was then acquired by private citizens who opened it up as a public park in 1979. With a long stretch of coastline, this park is an excellent destination for water-based activities like swimming, kayaking, fishing, and sunbathing. Wildlife spotting is also popular, thanks to the abundance of gophers, armadillos, rabbits, and coyotes. Entrance Fees - Adult: $5 Daily - Child 12 Years and Under: Free Reservations are available [online] (https://texasstateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/mustang-island-state-park/r/facilityDetails.do?contractCode=TX&parkId=1200042&_ga=2.227897496.447085507.1618845916-917412064.1616861417) or by calling (512) 389-8900
