The 70-miles of unspoiled, rugged shoreline is just one of the many reasons to visit this magnificent beach. It is diverse, dynamic ecosystem of coastal dunes, grassy prairies, and barren sandflats is constantly changing due to erosion, wind, and tides, which also makes it a unique destination along the Gulf. The wildlife here is almost as impressive as the breathtaking scenery itself. The island is located on the migratory path for birds, which means 45% of all North American bird species have been spotted in this area at one point or another. And in the summer, the shores turn into a nesting ground for Kemp's ridley sea turtles, the rarest seat turtle in the entire world. Other popular activities here include kayaking, beachcombing, fishing, and camping.
