Bubble Rock Parking Lot Details

Blue blazes starting at the Bubble Rock trailhead parking lot lead you onto the South Bubble Trail which leads to Bubble Rock and offers stunning views of Jordan Pond and the ocean from the summit of South Bubble. You'll pass through a beech forest during the first half of your hike: please resist the urge to add your name to those carved in the trees since this reduces their ability to fight disease. In 1914, overlogging of beech forests like this contributed to the extinction of the once-numerous passenger pigeon, which fed on beech nuts. The disappearance of the passenger pigeon, in turn, hastened the decline of the Park's original population of peregrine falcons which were wiped out by DDT before being restored to Acadia in the 1980s.
