East Gate Registration Buildings Details
Built in 1934-36, the East Gate Registration Buildings are symbolic of the increasing importance of the motorcar within the national parks in the 1930s. The buildings served as registration points for visitors to the park, and provided washrooms and other facilities. The series of buildings was built by funds obtained under the Public Works Construction Act of 1934 to help with Depression-relief. Today, these buildings serve as an important landmark within the park. The East Gate Registration Buildings are listed on Canada's Historic Places and the Canadian Register, and are Federal Heritage Buildings.
