Back Basin Details
The forested Back Basin is perhaps best known as the home of Steamboat Geyser, the world's tallest active geyser. 'Active' is a relative term -- sometimes days, months, or even years pass between eruptions. But when Steamboat does go off, it goes big, throwing water up to 300 feet in the air. You'll also find the beautiful Emerald Spring in the Back Basin and Echinus Geyser, the largest known acidic geyser, whose waters have about the same PH as vinegar.
