White River Campground Details
The White River Campground, located in the northeast section of the park, sits at 4,400 feet, making it the highest of the park's three drive-up campgrounds. Due to its elevation, it's typically not open until late June, but it still stays open until late September like the other campgrounds in the park. As always, the opening dates depend on the weather and road conditions. The campground has 112 individual campsites, but no group sites. Wheelchair-accessible restrooms can be found at Loop C in the campground. Amenities include running water, flush toilets, picnic tables, and fire grates. The site can accommodate RVs up to 27 feet, or vehicles with trailers up to 18 feet. None of the campgrounds in the park have electric hookups for RVs. Camping fees are $20 per site. The Wonderland Trail passes through the campground, making this a popular place for beginning or ending the 93-mile hike. The hut at the entrance sometimes has extra fuel and supplies in its "free" cabinet, and is also a good spot to donate unwanted supplies before continuing along your route. You can also mail or drop a cache here to pick up during your trek. The White River Patrol Cabin, a post-and-beam log building in the middle of the campground, was built as a the ranger station in 1927. The cabin was remodeled in 1949, and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. Visitors can step inside for a peek.
