Paradise Valley Road Details

The one-way Paradise Valley Road heads clockwise, leading visitors through a meadow-filled valley and into the Paradise area, which has an inn, a guide house, and the new Jackson Visitor Center. The road offers access to many of the park's trails, and provides stunning views of Rainier's southern side. Paradise Valley Road remains open during winter, weather permitting, but drivers must carry tire chains for safety. The Paradise Valley Road was designed by Eugene Ricksecker, a civil engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and once hosted President William Taft, who road up to Paradise from Longmire in the first car to complete this journey -- with a little help from a horse along the way.
