Nisqually Vista Trail Details
This easy, 1.2-mile loop trail takes walkers to an overlook with stunning views of the Nisqually Glacier and the rocky U-shaped Nisqually River valley, passing through forests and subalpine meadows en route. It gains just 200 feet, meaning it's doable for hikers of all ages, and reaches a high point of 5,420 feet. Stop at the Jackson Visitor Center to get a trail map. The paved trail begins at the northwest end of Paradise's lower parking lot. It's not wheelchair accessible due to the steps at the beginning, but it's suitable for those with strollers. Start with a gentle climb through wildflower meadows for .3 miles, and then follow a loop around to several different overlooks and past a small pond, Fairy Pool. Look for an interpretive sign about the glacier, which had receded immensely over time, leaving a dirt- and rock-covered ice mound with the river slipping out of an ice cave on its face. You'll get great views of Pinnacle Peak in the Tatoosh Range and Mount Rainier along the way. Trail stats: 1.2 miles roundtrip; 200 foot elevation gain; 45 minutes.
