Known as "Little Washington" when compared to the nation's capital, the town of Washington, Va., is a National Historic Landmark with well-manicured streets and businesses. Washington has many options for lodging and dining close to the park, hosting several B&Bs, lodges, and inns -- some dating back as early as 1837. Visitors looking for dining options outside the park can find a range of restaurants, from homestyle cooking at the Country Cafe to five-course dinners at the Foster Harris House. Known as the "First Washington" because it was the first of 28 U.S. towns named for the first president of the United States, Washington has many historical sights and museums to explore.
