Cedar Run/Whiteoak Circuit Details

This 8.2-mile loop hike begins at the Hawksbill Gap Trailhead, located at mile 45.6 on Skyline Drive. Follow the Cedar Run Trail, passing Cedar Run Falls, to the Cedar Run Link Trail and turn left. This trail will take you to the Whiteoak Canyon Trail, where you'll hike past several waterfalls and cascades. At the next intersection, turn left onto the Whiteoak Fire Road and take the horse trail to return to your starting point. (Some people choose to hike the loop in the reverse direction.) Whiteoak Canyon's six waterfalls are spectacular, with the uppermost and tallest falls measuring 86 feet. Remember that rocks along the falls can be slippery when wet, so stay on the trail for your safety. This is one of the most strenuous hikes in the park, so be prepared with food, water, extra layers, and a flashlight or headlamp. This is a popular hike so expect to see other visitors, and don't forget to keep an eye out for the wildlife that call the canyon home.
