Cable Mountain Trail Details
Although this trail is seldom used, it contains a good number of pretty vistas along the Zion Canyon rim, as well as good views of the monolithic Great White Throne, Big Bend, and the steep cliffs of Zion Canyon. The trail follows an old wagon road through ponderosa pines and Gambel oaks before steadily descending to the canyon rim. The remainder of the trail leads over an overgrown slope to the site of the Draw Works, an old system created to transport lumber from the forests on the plateau to the canyon below. The headframe of the historic Draw Works aerial tramway still stands, and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
