Cassidy Arch is named after the legendary outlaw Butch Cassidy (of Sundance Kid fame), who was reputed to have had a hideout nearby. The arch itself is the result of erosion by slightly acidic groundwater that slowly ate away the foundation of the sandstone around fractures or resistant layers of rock. Eventually, an arch was formed. Cassidy Arch is 400 feet above the road and can be reached via the Cassidy Arch Trail.
