At the southern tip of Texas, near the banks of the Rio Grande River, sits this ecologically diverse wildlife refuge. With subtropical wetlands, desert plains, and coastal marshes, this refuge is teeming with birds, butterflies, and mammals. It even protects a few endangered creatures, including the Texas ocelot and the Gulf Coast jaguarundi. Due to the park's location along the migratory route, there have also been almost 400 different birds discovered in the area. In addition, the park also contains nearly half of all butterfly species in the country. Popular activities for guests include hiking, guided nature walks, and photography.
